Carley Hale, a junior from Panhandle, TX, was sixth during a meet held Saturday in Conway.

CONWAY – The Southern Arkansas women's cross country team opened its 2019 season Saturday at the UCA XC Challenge, finishing third as a team behind host Central Arkansas, and Arkansas-Little Rock.

Carley Hale set the pace for the Muleriders, finishing sixth place. The second-team All-GAC selection from a year ago was the top non-UCA finisher at the event.

Freshmen Kendall Hays, Leah Sanders and Paige Loehding, all making their collegiate debuts, turned in top-33 finishes, finishing 20th, 27th and 33rd.

The Muleriders are back in action next Friday in Arkadelphia.

The meet attracted 92 runners from 10 teams to the 4K course at Beaverfork Lake.
