FORT SMITH – Arkansas-Fort Smith beat Southern Arkansas in four sets on Tuesday in non-conference volleyball.

It was the final non-Great American Conference affair for SAU in the 2019 regular season.

UAFS claimed the first two sets before the Muleriders fought back to take set three 25-23. In that set, Southern Arkansas practically matched the Lions stat for stat as both squads attacked at .200 with UAFS committing one more error and recording one more kill. The difference for the Muleriders came defensively as SAU recorded five blocks in the set to force a fourth frame.

Highlighting the evening for Southern Arkansas was senior outside hitter Seven Powers who registered her second-straight double-double and the third of her career after producing a 10-kill, 11-dig effort. The ten kills in the loss gives her 181 for the season and it marks the sixth-consecutive match that the North Little Rock native has reached at least double-figures in kills.

True freshman setter Morgan Schuster delivered 27 assists and added six digs, two kills, a service ace and one block solo. Schuster has produced 563 assists this season which has included 14 matches of at least 25 assists for the Arlington, Texas native.

Sophomore middle Abby Bermudez and junior right side Morgan Gross each totaled nine points on Tuesday. Bermudez recorded seven kills, five digs and a pair of block solos, while Gross' total came at the tune of five kills, three digs, three aces and a block solo.

Southern Arkansas returns home for a pair of matches inside the W.T. Watson Center this weekend. The Muleriders play host to Oklahoma Baptist at 6 p.m. Friday. They host Southern Nazarene at 11:30 a.m. Saturday.
