SPRINGFIELD, MO – Southern Arkansas came up short Friday against their hosts at the Drury Thanksgiving Classic, as the Panthers beat the Muleriders 66-58.
SAU junior forward Devante Brooks recorded his third double-double of the season with 15 points and 13 rebounds and junior guard Aaron Lucas led SAU with 19 points, while redshirt freshman Trent Ivy added a career-high 10 points and finished two rebounds shy of a double-double effort.
Despite the defeat, Southern Arkansas won the battle on the glass as they outrebounded the Panthers 46-28 which included grabbing 10 more offensive rebounds than Drury. The Muleriders shot 40 percent (23-of-57) from the floor overall and 26.7% (8-of-30) from three-point range.
In the second half, the Muleriders' surge was engineered by a 50 percent (7-of-14) from three-point range which was part of a 55.2% success rate from the floor. Southern Arkansas outscored Drury 42-40 in the second half after trailing 26-16 at the intermission.
The Muleriders return to action at 1 p.m. Saturday against Missouri S&T.
