Here is a look at this week’s football games in the NCAA Division II Great American Conference
Southern Nazarene at Oklahoma Baptist, 1 p.m.
One week after securing its first winning season as a Division II program, Oklahoma Baptist seeks its second seven-win season since it restarted the program in 2013. Bison running back Tyler Stuever has run for 303 yards on just 28 carries in the last two weeks and he has scored six touchdowns. Last week, Crimson Storm specialist Jakel Davis returned a kick 90 yards for a touchdown, to become the second player in GAC history with three kick return touchdowns in a career. All four meetings have been decided by 10 points or less. Southern Nazarene holds the narrowest 106-105 advantage in total points scored.
Henderson State at Ouachita, 1:05 p.m.
For the first time since 2014, the Battle of the Ravine features two ranked teams as the No. 20/20 Reddies travel across the street to face the No. 5/4 Tigers. Through 92 editions of the series, each side has won 43 with six ties. No Division II series played as frequently features a margin as close. The Reddies will look to prevent the Tigers from tying the GAC’s consecutive league wins record of 27, which they set from 2011-14. Ouachita has not dropped a GAC game since October 22, 2016. Tiger running back Brockton Brown has scored 21 rushing touchdowns, tying him with former Harding Bison Park Parish for the most in a single season in GAC history.
Arkansas-Monticello at Southern Arkansas, 2 p.m.
The Weevils head to Magnolia for the 95th edition of the Battle of the Timberlands attempting to win consecutive games in the series for the first time since 2009 and 2010. Both of those wins came in El Dorado in the Murphy USA Classic. They last won at SAU in 2004. A Weevil win would assure a second-straight winning regular season for the first time since 1992 and 1993. A Mulerider win would give the program consecutive eight-win seasons for the first time since registered three straight from 1997 to 1999. This game features three of the GAC’s six rushers averaging at least 80.0 yards per game in the UAM duo of Devontae Dean and Demilon Brown plus SAU’s KorDavion Washington.
East Central at Southeastern Oklahoma State, 2 p.m.
The Tigers and Savage Storm square off in the 105th rendition of the Great American Classic. The decade of the 2010s has featured two runs of victories. ECU won four straight from 2010 through 2013. Southeastern has responded by winning the last five meetings. Last season, Skye Lowe scored on a four-yard pass as the Savage Storm won the second overtime game in series history. In 2017, his only other meeting with the Savage Storm, Tiger running back Ontario Douglas gained 105 all-purpose yards. Last week, Tiger quarterback Kenny Hrncir recorded his first 300-yard passing game and added 72 yards on the ground in a 31-30 road win against Arkansas Tech.
Harding at Arkansas Tech, 2 p.m.
Harding looks to secure a spot in the NCAA Division II Playoffs for the sixth time in the last eight years when it visits Arkansas Tech. The Bisons have won seven of the last eight against the Wonder Boys. The Bisons have run for at least 400 yards in five straight games and averaged 480.6 per game in that stretch to raise their season average to an NCAA-leading 392.6 yards per game. Bison full back Cole Chancey needs 108 yards to pass former Wonder Boy Bryan Allen for second place on the GAC’s all-time list. Allen gained 3,622 yards from 2015-18. Against ECU, Wonder Boy wide receiver Drew Wade matched his season high with seven receptions and totaled a season-high 111 yards.
