ARKADELPHIA -- Southern Arkansas women snapped a five-game basketball losing streak against Ouachita Baptist on Saturday, winning a 73-58 contest.
A 26-13 second quarter for the Muleriders proved to be the difference on the day.
The Muleriders shot 60 percent from the field in the second quarter, as well as going 3-5 from three-point range and 5-5 from the free throw line. The Tigers were held to four of eight attempts from the field in the second frame.
The Muleriders shot over 50 percent from the floor, their highest percentage of the season.
Of the 15 players that saw the floor, 13 scored for the Muleriders, with only two players – Kisi Young and Ariana Guinn – scoring more than 10 points.
This marks the first SAU win over Ouachita since January 21, 2017, and their first win in Bill Vining Arena since January 23, 2016. The two conference wins for the Muleriders matches their total from last season – and the 6-1 start matches that of the 2015-16 season.
The Muleriders are now 6-1 on the season and 2-1 in conference play. They return to action next Saturday inside the W.T. Watson Center as they host Arkansas Tech.
