Roy Green

The Magnolia School District will retire the jersey number of Roy Green during Homecoming festivities next week.

Roy Green’s Magnolia High School football jersey number will be retired.

The Magnolia School Board gave its approval Monday night to retire No. 25, which was worn by the only member of the Magnolia Panthers football team to enjoy a pro football career.

Retirement of the jersey number will be part of Magnolia High School Homecoming festivities on Friday, October 18.

Green was a member of the Magnolia High Class of 1975, which won the Arkansas Class 2A state football championship team in the fall of 1974. The 1974 squad was the last Magnolia team to win a state football title.

Green played for Henderson State University and was drafted by the St. Louis Cardinals – later the Arizona Cardinals. In his rookie season, Green set an NFL record for longest return of a punt for a touchdown.

Green’s 14-year professional career also included a stop in Philadelphia. He had 559 total receptions, 66 touchdown receptions and 1 rushing touchdown.
