Magnolia welcomes Crossett to Panther Stadium for the Panthers’ second non-conference football game of the season at 7 p.m. Friday.
The Panthers are 0-1 following their 41-21 loss to Warren on Tuesday, August 27 during the Blue Cross-Blue Shield Kickoff Classic at Southern Arkansas University.
The game was Mark King’s first outing as Magnolia’s head coach. Although Magnolia did lose by 20 points, it is important to note that the Panthers managed long drives against the Lumberjacks -- a perennial powerhouse in Class 4A football.
Magnolia was unable to score on three drives that ended inside the Warren 13 -- including two inside the 5-yard-line.
Tonight, the visiting Eagles are playing their first football game of the season.
Magnolia fans have good memories of last year’s game in Crossett. The Panthers won 24-0. It was the second victory of a three-game winning streak against non-conference opponents, which was Magnolia’s best start since the 2006 season. It was the first time since 2008 when the Panthers had won three consecutive games.
Magnolia went on to lose three conference games in a row before completing the season 6-4, 3-4 in conference
Fans at Panther Stadium will notice some changes. The main parking lot has been resurfaced and striped. A new main gate and a pass gate have been built, with new fencing on the west side of the stadium.
Fans are invited to take part in tailgating activities before the game.
