Nevada County, the defending Arkansas Class 1A boys basketball champion, advanced to the Region 4 title game on Friday as the Blue Jays took a bite out of the Strong Bulldogs, 78-33.
The Region 4 tournament is being held in Emerson.
Nevada will play Kirby in the regional title game at 6:45 p.m. Saturday.
Bradley and Strong will play for third place at 1 p.m. Saturday.
All four teams will advance to the Class 1A state tournament next week at West Side Greers Ferry.
Trevon Gulley led all scorers with 17 points, including 9 from 3-point range. Javontae Pearson had 16 points, including 6 from the free-throw line.
Jared Todd had 14 points, including 8 in the second period.
Also scoring for Nevada were Kobe Edwards with 8, Damoriea Christopher and Dontavious Watts with 7 each, Kavon Stewart with 5 and Keshawn Harris with 4.
Nevada led 22-4 after the first quarter, and 42-17 at the half. The score was 62-23 after 3 quarters.
Fred Williams led Strong with 11 points, including 5 from the line. Emauri Newton had 9 points, Derrian Thomas and Shudaris Shelton with 5 each, Treveon Daniels with 2 and Bryan Maze with 1.
Kirby beat Bradley 58-55 to advance into the regional championship.
Kirby will play Emerson at 4 p.m. Saturday for the girls’ title. Emerson reached the finals with a 58-27 win against Blevins and a 47-45 victory against Ouachita on Friday.
Kirby beat Nevada 72-36 and defeated Dermott 64-32 to reach the finals.
The third-place game between Dermott and Ouachita will be at 10 a.m. Saturday.
As with the boys’ bracket, Emerson, Kirby, Dermott and Ouachita are all guaranteed trips to the Class 1A state tournament at Greers Ferry.
