Logoly State Park plans many events in conjunction with the 2019 Great Backyard Bird Count.

Logoly State Park near McNeil has scheduled four days of events connected with the 2019 Great Backyard Bird Count this weekend.

Activities will be held at the park.

The schedule:

Friday

9-11 a.m. Basics of Birding Hike. Follow park staff to visit some of the birdiest spots in the park.

Noon-1 p.m. Backyard Birding Bonanza. Visit the native shrub garden and feeding stations near Logoly's Visitor Center with park staff to gain inspiration and ideas on how to strength the health of a backyard's ecosystem.

2-3:30 p.m. Sparring with Sparrows: An Identification Workshop. Sparrows abound in Arkansas during the winter. These beloved winter visitors that call Logoly home can often be tricky to identify. Work with park staff to sort through this family.

Saturday

9-11 a.m. Basics of Birding Hike. Follow park staff to visit some of the birdiest spots in the park.

Noon-1 p.m. Birds in Art. Birds have inspired artists throughout history perhaps with their breathtaking plumages or their graceful movements. Visit with park staff to go over some of these iconic birds in art. Then work on making your own bird art.

2-3:30 p.m. Riveting Raptors: An Identification Workshop. As winter turns to spring, raptors begin to nest at Logoly, while some are beginning their northward migrations. Join park staff in this ID workshop and familiarize yourself with some of the state's truly riveting raptors.

Sunday

9-11 a.m. Basics of Birding Hike. Follow park staff to visit some of the birdiest spots in the park.

Noon-1 p.m. Bird Feeding Tutorial. Though there are plenty of ways to attract birds for better viewing, feeding them can be the most effective. Join park staff on a tour of feeders and

learn which is best for you and your birds. Also, learn about feeder upkeep and which seeds to and when to use them.

6-7 p.m. Owl Prowl. Although the daytime provides a lot of birding opportunities, there are some birds that are more available during the night. Join park staff on an evening stroll through the forest of Logoly to listen and look for owls.

Monday

9-11 a.m. Basics of Birding Hike. Follow park staff to visit some of the birdiest spots in the park.

2-3:30 p.m. Thinking Like a Citizen Scientist. Not only can birding be a fun, family event, but it can also provide people with a deep connection to nature and our local ecosystems. Join park staff and learn how to turn observations into scientific data, thus becoming citizen scientists.
