Howard W. Groves left his earthly home for his eternal resting place on Thursday, July 25, 2019 in Springdale.
Howard, a longtime resident of Magnolia, was born on January 17, 1923 to Archie and Bertha Groves of Macedonia. He was married to Bettye Womack, from Haynesville, Louisiana.
Howard attended and graduated from Magnolia High School in 1942. Shortly after graduating from MHS he was called, on January 14, 1943, to serve in the Army Air Corps during World War II. He was assigned to 21st Air Depot Group based in Great Britain as a supply technician and discharged on October 20,1945. After being discharged, Howard returned to his hometown of Magnolia and worked at Turner Hardware for several years, then entered into his own business, Southern Hardware. Howard was a licensed real estate agent and construction contractor later in life, after his hardware tenure, and had a successful period in both arenas until retiring. Howard was a member of Central Baptist Church, Magnolia for many happy years.
Howard and Bettye had no children. He is survived by a sister, Pat Hime of Austin, TX; a brother, Billy Groves of Rogers; and many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his wife, his parents, and two brothers, Loye and Aubrey Groves.
After retiring from construction and real estate he spent more time on the golf course. Howard truly enjoyed the game of golf and after moving to Bella Vista, he capitalized on his free time and all the available golf courses to fulfill his love for the game. He has two nephews and one grand nephew that will tell you he was darn good at the game even after he passed his 90th birthday.
Honorary pallbearers are his nephews and grand nephew as well as Ben Eiler, Ed Pharr, Chris Peterson and Thomas Pearson.
A graveside service for Howard will be at 10 a.m. Monday, July 29, 2019 at Magnolia Memorial Park with Bro. Steve Ford officiating.
Burial will follow under the direction of Bailey Funeral Home of El Dorado.
