Mat Steward, 72, was called home on Saturday, August 24, 2019 at Baptist Health Medical Center in Little Rock.
Mat was born on July 16, 1947 in Salem, AR to Percy and Rena Mae Steward.
He graduated from Junction City High School, retired from Georgia Pacific, and was happily married to Geogia O’Guinn Steward. Mat and Georgia, his partner in life, were married for over 35 years.
Mat is survived by his wife; six children, Yolanda (Kevin) Steward Moody, Torrence (Terri) Steward, Lawrence (Lakreshia) Steward, Lorenzo (Tiffany) Steward, Kelvin (Epiphany) Steward, and Rachel Steward; eight brothers, Jay, Charlie (Judy), Walter, Lenora (Regina), John (Brenda), Percy Jr., James, and Winston; and five sisters, Lessie Mae Harris, Liz (Eddie) Massey, Linda (John) Cox, Besty Steward, and Mildred (Donald) Frazier.
He also has 19 grandchildren, six great-grandchildren, along with numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
Besides spending time with his family and friends, Mat had a passion for the outdoors, be it fishing, hunting, gaming, or farming. Outside is where he spent most of his free time.
The family sends a special thanks to all the dedicated caregivers who offered their assistance to Mat Steward along the way.
Funeral services will be 1 p.m. Friday, August 30 at Mount Calvary Baptist Church in El Dorado. Interment will follow in Salem Cemetery in Junction City, AR, under the direction of Marks Funeral Home of Magnolia.
The Rev. John Elliott will be the clergyman.
Visitation will be until 4:30 p.m. Thursday at Marks Funeral Home in Magnolia.
