Charles Edward Jones departed this life on Thursday, July 18, 2019 in Little Rock.
He was the youngest child born to his parents, Tafe and Mary Jones of Stephens, who preceded him in death. He was also preceded in death by his older brothers, Ernest Acie Lee Jones and James Grant.
He was born in Stephens January 19, 1947. Charles joined Cedar Grove Baptist Church at an early age where he was on the Usher’s Board. Charles resided in Stephens, where he attended and played basketball at Carver High School. Following graduation, he served with the U.S. Army, stationed in Vietnam for two years. He received numerous medals including National Defense Service, Vietnam Campaign, Bronze Star, Vietnam Service, Army Commendation, and Good Conduct. He was honorably discharged in 1970.
After serving his country, he was employed by the St. Louis Police Department for a number of years as a police officer. He later returned home to Arkansas where he remained until his home going.
Everyone who knew Charles was aware of how freehearted he was to those in need and even those who weren’t. And if you ever wanted a finger licking home-cooked meal, just ask Charles. He was eager to fix it.
