John Arthur Smith

Funeral services for John Arthur Smith will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, July 27 at Buchanan Missionary Baptist Church in Stamps.

On July 14, 2019, an angel visited St. Michael Hospital of TEXarkana, and took the hand of John A. Smith Sr. when God called him to glory.

John was born January 8, 1971, to Joe H. Smith and Deloice Tyson Smith in Hot Springs.

He graduated from Stamps High School in 1991. He worked for Falcon Products in Lewisville and the City of Stamps. In 1996 he married Denise Jackson and went to truck driving school. He later moved his family to Hot Springs where he began to work for the City of Hot Springs/Spa Construction. A few years later he returned to his hometown and began log truck driving for many years. He retired early. John loved spending time with his family and friends. He had a passion for truck driving, and mechanic work.

He joined Bethel AME Church in Stamps as a youth, but attended Buchanan Missionary Baptist Church with his family.

He was preceded in death by his paternal and maternal grandparents; and his father, Joe H. Smith.

He leaves to mourn his passing a loving wife, Denise Smith of Nash, TX; one daughter, Octavia Smith; one son, John Smith Jr., both of Nash, TX; his mother, Deloice Tyson Brock of Lewisville, AR., two sisters; Joann Timmons of Hot Springs, Mary Kelly of Lewisville; three brothers, Phil Smith of Hot Springs, Joseph (Wanda) Smith of Fayetteville, NC, David Smith of Lewisville; a very special uncle, Rev. Sylvester (Judy) Tatum of Stamps; two special friends, Wayne Bechel of Malvern and David Turner of Lewisville; and a host of aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, cousins, church family and friends.

Celebration of life will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, July 27 at Buchanan Missionary Baptist Church in Stamps. Rev. Charles Smith will officiate. The eulogist will be the Rev. Sylvester Tatum.

Burial will follow at Lakeside Cemetery in Stamps under the direction of R.L. Reed Funeral Home, LLC, in Magnolia.

Visitation will be noon-4:30 p.m. Friday at R.L. Reed Funeral Home in Magnolia.
