Doris Lurline Waller

Doris Lurline Waller, 97, of Emerson passed away on Saturday, July 4, 2020 at Wentworth Place in Magnolia, surrounded by family.

Doris was born on June 29, 1923 in Haynesville, LA to Samuel Ross and Elaine Tennessee Carter. In 1946, she married the love of her life, Travis Waller, and they had five children, Linda, Gary, Sammie, Jan and Ross.

Doris loved her family and fed them the best bacon sandwiches, hot water cornbread, peas and dressing they ever ate. She never missed a family gathering or her favorite soap-opera. In her 97 years, Doris encountered many historical events, lived through some of the best and worst times of the world, and felt the tears that a mother should never feel. But she was strong, brave, quiet and wise. Her children received these traits their mother has left behind and will treasure every moment that she was able to give to them.

Doris was predeceased by her parents; husband, Travis Waller; son, Sammie Waller; and son-in-law, Joe Mullins.

She is survived by four children, Linda Mullins of Emerson, Gary Waller (Beth) of Warner-Robbins, GA, Jan Waddell (David) of TexARKana, and Ross Waller (Hope Hines) of Milledgeville, GA; daughter-in-law Kay Waller of Magnolia; 15 grandchildren; 26 great-grandchildren and 1 great-great-grandchild.

Viewing and signing of the guestbook will be 10 a.m. to noon Monday at Lewis Funeral Home.

A graveside service will be held at 2 p.m. Monday, July 6, 2020 at Emerson Presbyterian Cemetery with Rev. Barbara Lewis officiating under the direction of Lewis Funeral Home, Inc.
