Ora Lee Yang Kendrick Heard was born on July 11, 1931 in the Atlanta-Emerson area to the late Isom and Maggie Evans Kendrick. She died Friday, July 5, 2019 in Fort Worth, TX.
She grew up in Atlanta-Emerson community and graduated from McMittress High School. Ora was a star basketball player for the McMittress Ravens.
Ora was united in holy matrimony in 1951 to the late Lindsey B. Heard and to this union one child was born, Marcus Heard.
Ora accepted Christ at an early age at Mount Israel CME Church. Later in life she united with Sweet Home Baptist Church in Fort Worth. Ora was devoted, mother, grandmother, who loved and supported her family. Ora had many years of work experience in aerospace-related industries.
Ora was preceded in death by her husband, parents and seven siblings.
Loving memories will forever be etched in the hearts of her beloved family including her son, Marcus Heard; the loved and apple of her eye, her grandson, Douglas Turner (Aimee); sisters, Annie Anderson (Loyd) of Fort Worth, Doshia Gatson (Floyd) of Emerson; one sister-in-law, Hannah Coble of Fort Worth, TX; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
Services will be at 1 p.m. Saturday, July 13, 2019 at Marks Funeral Home Chapel in Magnolia.
Interment will be in Mount Israel Cemetery in Emerson.
Clergy will be Pastor Gladys Fields.
Visitation will be 11:30 a.m.-4:30 p.m. Friday, July 12, 2019 at Marks Funeral Home in Magnolia.
Services are under the direction of Marks Funeral Home, Inc., in Magnolia.
