Two South Arkansas cities have recently been approved for loans from the Arkansas Natural Resources Commission.

The City of Smackover will get a $482,932 loan from the Arkansas Clean Water State Revolving Loan Fund.

"The funds will be used to correct waste water discharge violations and will serve 820 customers," said Mark Bennett, ANRC Water Development Division Manager.

The City of Portland in Ashley County will get a $1.5 million loan from the same fund.

"The funds will be used to replace the existing mechanical plant with a 3-cell oxidation pond and will serve 240 customers," said Bennett.

Loan repayment schedules will not exceed 30 years or the life of the projects. The commission will establish the combined annual borrower rate and additional loan terms and conditions, including the requirement to establish and maintain a depreciation reserve fund.
