Octavious Critton was shot and killed and another man was wounded about 11:30 p.m. Sunday during an outbreak of gunfire in El Dorado.
Critton, 17, was an incoming senior at El Dorado High School. He was a cornerback on the Wildcats football team.
Juston Alex Mayweather was injured and taken to the Medical Center of South Arkansas for treatment.
According to El Dorado police, officers were dispatched to the 1200 block of Detroit Street. They found Mayweather at the scene, who told them that the shooting had happened across the street in the 1200 block of California Street.
Officers went to the second location and found Critton dead at the scene. His body was sent to the State Crime Lab for an autopsy.
No arrest has been made in the case.
The El Dorado School District issued a statement through its Facebook page.
“We are deeply saddened to hear of the passing of one of our El Dorado High School students over the weekend. The El Dorado School District sends our deepest condolences to the family of Octavius Critton. Our sincere sympathies, thoughts and prayers are with his family and friends. Counselors are available for any of our students and staff during this difficult time,” the statement said.
The football team’s practice set for Monday was cancelled.
