A Crossett man died Friday morning when his truck collided head-on with the cab of a tractor-trailer on U.S. 165 in Lonoke County.

According to a preliminary Arkansas State Police report, Meeks Ashley, 48, was driving his 2015 model Ford F550 south on the highway, approaching Johnson Road. William Jones, 28, of Stuttgart, was driving a 2007 model Kenworth north on U.S. 165.

Ashley’s vehicle crossed the center line and struck the Kenworth. The Jones Kenworth left the west side of the road and burst into flames. The Ashley truck spun around and blocked the southbound lane.

Ashley was killed. Jones was taken to Arkansas Children’s Hospital for treatment.

The weather was clear and the road was dry.
