Fredgrikas Montel Hardiman drowned Saturday in the Elk River in Missouri.

A former Waldo resident drowned Saturday in Southwest Missouri.

According to the Missouri State Highway Patrol, Fredgrikas Montel Hardiman, 34, of Fayetteville was in a boat on the Elk River. He got out of the boat and was swept downstream by a swift current and went under a log jam.

The drowning was reported at 6:13 p.m. Saturday. Hardiman was pronounced dead by McDonald County Coroner Jonathan Fletcher.

The drowning happened on the Elk River about one mile north of Noel.

McDonald County is located just north of the Arkansas-Missouri state line.

Missouri State Highway Patrol Sgt. W.L. Burr investigated the drowning.
