Child dies

An infant being carried by her mother across a Texarkana street was killed Monday when they were struck by a car.

An infant being carried by her mother across State Line Avenue in TexARKana died Monday night when they were struck by a vehicle.

According to a preliminary Arkansas State Police report, the driver of a 2006 model Chrysler PT Cruiser was traveling north on State Line. The driver entered the turn lane to make a left-hand turn.

Charlise Hillis, 19, of TexARKana, was carrying a baby across the street when both were struck by the vehicle. The infant died at the scene and Hillis was taken to Wadley Hospital.

The vehicle driver was not hurt and was not identified in the report. The name of the infant was not released. The child’s body was released to Texarkana Funeral Home.

The accident happened about 6:30 p.m.
