Three dead

A child and two young people died about 6:55 p.m. Thursday in a collision on Arkansas 8 near Arkadelphia.

The Arkansas State Police identified the dead as one of the drivers, Zackary Adam Handley, 19, of Amity; and his passengers, Chloe Dyanne Bowers, 18, of Arkadelphia and a minor male child who was not named in the report.

According to a preliminary Arkansas State Police report, Handley was driving west in a 2002 model GMC Envoy on Arkansas 8 West near Mount Olive Road. The vehicle crossed the center line and into the path of the westbound 1995 model Western Star tractor-trailer, driven by Bradley John Bankhead, 38, of Amity.

All three fatalities died at the scene. Bankhead was injured and taken to Baptist Health of Arkadelphia.

The weather was cloudy but the road was dry when the wreck happened.

Cpl. Edward G. Church investigated the accident for the Arkansas State Police.

Thursday’s wreck was the deadliest of six accidents in Arkansas since Sunday that have taken two or more lives, including three since Wednesday.
