United States Attorney Duane "Dak" Kees has resigned.

U.S. Attorney Duane "Dak" Kees of Bentonville, whose district includes Columbia and surrounding South Arkansas counties, is resigning effective midnight Friday.

According to press reports, Kees plans to take a legal position with Tyson Foods.

Kees announced his pending resignation on Monday.

Kees was sworn into office on January 5, 2018.

He earned his law degree from the University of Arkansas and as a member of the U.S. Army, was deployed to Afghanistan and Iraq. He was a partner in the law firm formerly operated by Gov. Asa Hutchinson. He was an adjunct professor at the University of Arkansas School of Law from 2013-2014. Kees replaced former federal prosecutor Conner Eldridge as U.S. attorney for the Western District of Arkansas.

The U.S. Attorney’s Office (USAO) Western District of Arkansas includes 34 counties generally in the area from Texarkana and El Dorado to Fayetteville and Fort Smith. It is responsible for representing the federal government criminal and civil matters.
