An eight-year-old boy was killed in Haughton, Louisiana about noon Saturday when the all-terrain vehicle he was riding landed on top of him.
Haughton police said Lawson Brandon, 8, of the 500 block of South Elm Street in Haughton, was riding an ATV with another 8-year-old friend in a field behind Brandon's home.
His grandmother, Dana Isom, was standing nearby trying to get the boys' attention in order to tell them to slow down. While she was standing there, the ATV flipped and landed on top of Brandon, then rolled over to the side.
Isom was able to run over and pull Brandon out from under the ATV. But neither boy was wearing a helmet and, as a result, Brandon
sustained severe head trauma.
Medics from Haughton Fire Department, Bossier Parish EMS and LifeAir were dispatched to scene. LifeAir airlifted Brandon to LSUHSC, where he was officially pronounced dead.
