Camden police said Sunday afternoon that Austin Hill, 19, of Camden has been charged with capital murder and aggravated robbery in the Friday slaying of a grocery store manager.
Richard Anders, 63, of Camden, died at Ouachita County Medical Center shortly after the 5:24 p.m. robbery at Mac’s Fresh Market in the Garden Oaks Shopping Center.
Police Chief Boyd Woody said in a statement that Hill was arrested at 2:30 p.m., just 15 minutes after an arrest warrant and search warrants were signed by Circuit Court Judge Hamilton Singleton.
“Since the initial call of the shooting, investigators from the Camden Police Department, with assistance from the Arkansas State Police and the Ouachita County Sheriff’s Office, have been working non-stop following every lead and interview every person connected with this case.
“Our community has been devastated by the senseless act committed by Hill and we are doing everything possible to bring him to justice. Our prayers are with Mr. Anders’ family, Mac’s employees and our community,” the statement said.
Camden police said Anders was walking from the store to his car with a bank deposit when he was shot once in the chest. The gunman was preliminarily identified as a black male wearing dark pants. Police say he took the bank deposit of about $13,000.
