Logs shifted off a truck on Arkansas 7 in Clark County on Wednesday afternoon, killing one driver and injuring another as a total of three vehicles collided with either the logs or the log truck.

According to a preliminary Arkansas State Police report, the accident happened in curve in the Griffithtown community. Log truck driver Michael W. Mann, 44, of Sparkman, was driving his load north on Arkansas 7 when the load shifted in a curve.

The load overturned, falling on the second of three vehicles that were southbound on the highway. The driver, James C. Hunter, 63, 1159 Arkansas 7 North, Sparkman, was killed in the 1991 Honda he was driving.

A second driver, Norma J. Jones, 55, 2410 Arkansas 7 South, Sparkman, swerved and overturned a 1999 Nissan while attempting to avoid Mann’s on-coming Peterbilt. Jones was injured.

Stewart Kelly of Arkadelphia, listed as age 13 in the report and with a birthday next week, avoided injury although the 2004 Chevrolet truck he was driving struck the Peterbilt. His passenger, Amberly Green of Arkadelphia, who turned 21 on Wednesday, was also unhurt.

Trooper 1st Class Sammy Hart investigated the accident.
