A three-vehicle wreck Friday on a wet stretch of the Dr. Martin Luther King Expressway in Hot Springs left one driver dead and seven people injured.
According to a preliminary Arkansas State Police report, Billy Charles Pierce, 82, of Mount Ida, was driving a 2017 Buick west on the highway when it crossed the center line and side-swiped two eastbound vehicles about 8:05 p.m.
The Pierce vehicle remained in the roadway while the two other vehicles left the road and went into a ditch.
Pierce was killed and three of his adult passengers were injured: Charlotte Marimae Pierce, 79, of Mount Ida, and Glenn Elmer Pierce, 57, and Tracy Jean Pierce, 47, both of Mount Ida.
Also injured were the drivers of the eastbound vehicles that were struck, and their passengers. Charles Dewayne Ray, 67, of Little Rock, drove a 2016 model Dodge. He was hurt along with the third driver of a 2007 model Ford, Stefani Hertado, 38, of Hot Springs, and two minors in the Hertado vehicle who were not identified in the ASP report.
All of the injured were taken to Christus-St. Vincent Medical Center in Hot Springs
It was raining when the wreck happened.
