Two Ashley County residents were killed Saturday night when the car in which they were riding was run over by a tractor-trailer on U.S. 82 east of Hamburg.

According to Arkansas State Police, Steven Ray Hodge, 32, 2180 Arkansas 133 North, Crossett, was driving a 2007 model Chevrolet Malibu west on U.S. 82. His vehicle ran off the north side of the highway, overcorrected to the left, and then went out of control. The Hodge car entered the eastbound traffic land and collided with a 2009 model Freightliner that was traveling east. The car spun beneath the truck and was run over by it.

Hodge and his passenger, Ophelia Lynn Baker, 26, 189 Ashley 173, Hamburg, died at the scene.

The driver of the truck, Abram Dawkins, 26, of Baton Rouge, Louisiana, was not hurt.

The weather was clear and the road was dry when the wreck happened. Hodge and Dawkins were not wearing seat belts.

The bodies were released to Hartshorn Funeral Home of Hamburg.

Trooper Derek Byrd investigated the wreck for the Arkansas State Police.
