Red River Truck Stop in Fulton was heavily damaged in a fire Friday night but firefighters were able to contain the blaze to the gas station, saving the truck shop that was attached.
The blaze at the truck stop broke out some time after 10 p.m. Friday, February 7. Truckers stopped for the night said they woke up to find the truck stop store engulfed in flames and moved quickly to get their trucks clear of the fuel pumps. Dispatch was notified of the blaze just after 10:30 p.m. and dispatched Cross Roads Volunteer Fire Department to the scene. Employees of Red River worked to get their wreckers and equipment clear from the shop as the growing flames threatened to spread to the connected structure.
Saratoga, Spring Hill, Southeast, Guernsey and Perrytown fire departments were dispatched to assist Cross Roads with the fire. Firefighters arrived on scene and immediately took action to prevent further property damage and try and avoid an explosion of several propane tanks enclosed in a cage at the east end of the building. They were able to save the shop and contain the fire to the store. The awning over the pumps and the pumps closest to the building were heavily damaged by the fire.
