Lawmen in South Louisiana arrested a man on Monday for his involvement in a second vehicular homicide in four months.
Shortly after 12:30 p.m. Monday, Louisiana State Police Troop A began investigating a fatal crash involving a pedestrian on Louisiana 10 east of U.S. 61 in West Feliciana Parish.
The crash took the life of Ricky J. Pourciau, 50, of St. Francisville, and resulted in the arrest of Salvatore Euggino, 60, of Ethel.
The initial investigation revealed that Euggino was driving a 2004 Chevrolet Silverado westbound on Louisiana 10. At the same time, Pourciau was walking westbound on the west shoulder of Louisiana 10. Pourciau was struck by Euggino’s Silverado and sustained fatal injuries as a result.
Louisiana State Police said in a statement that after striking Pourciau, Euggino fled the scene. With the assistance of the West Feliciana Parish Sheriff’s Office, he was later located at a local business. Troopers ruled out alcohol impairment for Euggino; however, a blood sample was obtained to detect the possible presence of narcotics, the results of which are pending.
Troopers arrested Euggino for negligent homicide, hit and run driving and careless operation of a vehicle. He was booked into the West Feliciana Parish Detention Center.
Louisiana State Police said this was the second time in less than four months that troopers have arrested Euggino for negligent homicide. He was previously arrested on on March 26 in East Feliciana Parish when he crossed over a no-passing centerline. As a result, his vehicle struck another driven by Marshaun Robertson, 34, of Ethel, resulting in his death.
