Two killed

A Thursday night wreck in Arkadelphia killed two people.

Two drivers died and two children were hurt about 6:22 p.m. Thursday in a collision on Hollywood Road (Arkansas 51) in southwest Arkadelphia.

According to a preliminary Arkansas State Police report, Donald Ray Richardson, 55, of Alexander, who was northbound on the road near Magnolia Drive, drove a 2003 Chevrolet Avalanche across the center line.

Richardson’s vehicle struck a southbound 2014 Ford Explorer, driven by Christy Renee Shuffield, 50, of Arkadelphia. The Richardson vehicle caught fire. Richardson and Shuffield died at the scene.

Richardson had two minors as passengers. Both children were injured and taken to area hospitals. They were not identified in the State Police report.

It was raining and the road was wet when the accident happened.

Trooper Dustin Arnold investigated the wreck for the Arkansas State Police.

There have been five vehicle accident-related deaths in Clark County since Tuesday.
