FORT SMITH – Charles Ray Vines, a Fort Smith resident who was convicted of murders in both Sebastian and Crawford Counties in the early 1990’s, has died in prison.

Arkansas Department of Correction spokesperson Dina Tyler confirmed to InsideFortSmith.Com’s Ryan Merrill Thursday that Vines died last week of natural causes, while incarcerated in the state’s Maximum Security Unit southeast of Pine Bluff.

Vines was convicted for the rape and murder of Juanita Wofford of Fort Smith in 1993, and then Ruth Henderson of Crawford County in 1995.
