Oil leak

About 1,500 barrels of oil leaked from an oil storage tank owned by a subsidiary of Delek US, which spilled into Little Corney Creek.

A leak between an oil storage tank and a pump led Saturday to the accidental release of about 1,500 barrels of crude oil into Little Corney Creek east of Magnolia, the Environmental Protection Agency said Wednesday.

The leak happened at Delek US Holding’s Lion Oil Trading & Transportation oil tank farm off Columbia County Road 25 north of the Calhoun community. The facility feeds Delek’s Lion Oil refinery in El Dorado.

The release created a three-foot-wide ribbon of oil that traveled about 1.5 miles down the creek. Recovery crews have been working to clean up the spilled petroleum, which equals roughly 4,400 gallons of liquid.

The leaked oil was contained. A vacuum truck was used to gather the oil.

The incident was reported to authorities about 9 a.m. Saturday.
