Here are recent case filings in Columbia County Civil Court since our last report. Statements are drawn from the plaintiff’s complaint. The facts of these cases have not been determined by a judge or jury, and no decisions have been rendered:
CV 2013 168-6. Ernest and Linda Hammock, Troy Young and Kathy Young v. Urban Oil and Gas Group LLC and Sewell Drilling LLC. Negligence. December 17. This is an action for property damage resulting from separate spills of drilling wastes and crude oil from an oil well drilled by the defendants on the plaintiffs’ land in Columbia County
CV 2013 169-6. Alaina Kay Burch v. Alaina Kay Atkinson. Name change. December 17. Burch wants to change her post-divorce name to her maiden name.
CV 2013 170-6. Sentry Insurance v. Thalia Ina Smith Ross, 830 E. Ruby, Stephens. Motor vehicle. December 19. The plaintiff’s insured was eastbound on Main Street, entering the square, when the defendant, who was southbound on Jefferson, failed to yield, entered the intersection and hit the plaintiff’s insured. Sentry seeks a judgment of $21,918.63 in damages.
CV 2013 171-6. Credit Acceptance Corp. v. Montril Moore and Sharon Moore, 1311 Columbia 78. Breach of contract. The defendants purchased a 2005 Honda Pilot and are in default, owing $9,548.47. The plaintiff seeks a judgement in that amount plus interest due.
CV 2013 172-6. RMC of America and Magnolia Regional Medical Center v. Jennifer Cantrell, 724 Howard, Magnolia. Open account. December 19. The plaintiff seeks a judgment of $1,675.00 for unpaid medical expenses.
CV 2013 173-6. Bodcaw Bank v. Yolanda Hildreth. Foreclosure. December 20. Hildreth executed a mortgage with the bank to buy property in Lot 5, Block A, Hillsdale Subdivision in Magnolia. She has been in default since October 15 on her monthly payments, owing $49,777.15 in principal and interest. The bank seeks an award of the unpaid principal and interest and a foreclosure sale on the property.
