Only 15 percent of magnoliareporter.com readers believe that Lee Harvey Oswald acted alone in the assassination of President John F. Kennedy.

Most magnoliareporter.com readers believe in different conspiracy theories dealing with Lee Harvey Oswald’s involvement in the assassination of President John F. Kennedy.

Starting Tuesday, we invited readers to select one of four answers to the following question:

“Which of these statements most closely matches your view about Lee Harvey Oswald’s role in the assassination of President John F. Kennedy, on Friday, Nov. 22, 1963?”

The results:

Oswald was a patsy in a conspiracy hatched by one or more of the following – anti-Castro groups, organized crime, a foreign government, or elements within the United States government, 98 votes, 53.26 percent.

Oswald was part of a larger conspiracy to kill the president, which at a minimum included at least one additional gunman, 35 votes, 19.02 percent.

Oswald planned and executed the assassination on his own, 28 votes, 15.21 percent.

Oswald received encouragement and help from others, but he carried out the assassination on his own, 23 votes, 12.5 percent.

Total votes: 184.

We conducted a similar poll in 2013 on the 50th commemoration of the assassination. The results indicate that substantially more readers believe conspiracy theories about the assassination than was the case five years ago. The results of the 2013 poll:

Oswald was a patsy in a conspiracy hatched by one or more of the following – anti-Castro groups, organized crime, a foreign government, or elements within the United States government, 60 votes, 35.08 percent.

Oswald planned and executed the assassination on his own, 47 votes, 27.48 percent.

Oswald was part of a larger conspiracy to kill the president, which at a minimum included at least one additional gunman, 36 votes, 21.05 percent.

Oswald received encouragement and help from others, but he carried out the assassination on his own, 23 votes, 13.45 percent.

Oswald was not involved in the assassination of President Kennedy, 5 votes, 2.92 percent.
