Lawn mower accident

A truck struck a riding lawn mower early Sunday in Winnsboro, LA, killing the driver of the mower.

One man was killed early Sunday while riding a lawn mower on a North Louisiana highway.

Louisiana State Police said the accident happened about 6:40 a.m. on U.S. 425 south of Winnsboro.

Elmer Jennings, 87, of Winnsboro was driving a zero-turn style lawn mower in the roadway, southbound on the highway at a low rate of speed. A southbound 2012 Ford F250, driven by Dusty Jones, 25, of Winnsboro, struck the mower from behind.

Jennings was pronounced dead at the scene by the Franklin Parish Coroner’s Office. Jones, who was restrained, was not injured in the crash.

Routine toxicology samples were obtained and will be submitted for analysis. This crash remains under investigation.
