A Louisiana State Police trooper found a body in the trunk of a car on Wednesday during a routine traffic stop. Two men have been arrested.

The trooper stopped a 2017 Chevrolet Camaro on Louisiana 17 near Winnsboro about 5 p.m. for a traffic violation.

The trooper noticed bullet holes in the driver’s side of the vehicle. The driver gave verbal consent for the trooper to search the vehicle. During the search, the trooper discovered the deceased body of Michael Robinson Jr., 23, of Monroe, in the trunk.

Troopers took the driver, Michael Mitchell Jr., 18, of Monroe, into custody after the discovery of Robinson’s body. As the investigation progressed, it was determined that Cameron Powe, 19, of Monroe, was also involved in the homicide.

Troopers arrested Powe at his residence in Monroe on Wednesday night.

Powe and Mitchell were booked into Ouachita Correctional Center and charged with second-degree murder.

The case remains under investigation.
