Haynesville Police Chief Anthony Smith has bee charged with theft of firearms.

Haynesville, LA Police Chief Anthony Smith has been arrested for possession of stolen firearms and malfeasance in office.

Smith, 56, was booked into the Claiborne Parish Detention Center in Homer about 2 p.m. Friday.

The Louisiana State Police Bureau of Investigation took Smith into custody on warrants issued by the Claiborne Parish Grand Jury.

Last year, the Federal Bureau of Investigations (FBI) concluded an investigation that alleged Smith committed malfeasance in office and was in possession of stolen firearms. The FBI referred the case to Claiborne Parish District Attorney’s Office.

Early Friday, Claiborne Parish District Attorney Danny Newell requested that LSP officers execute an arrest warrant for Smith. The LSP was also requested to execute two search warrants issued by the Claiborne Parish Grand Jury.

Smith was charged with five counts of theft of firearms, and malfeasance in office.

Louisiana State Police said in a statement that the investigation is continuing.

Smith has been Haynesville police chief for more than a decade.
