Man killed

A Shongaloo man died Friday in a collision just north of Sarepta.

A Shongaloo, LA man was killed Friday morning in a wreck on U.S. 371 just north of Sarepta in Webster Parish.

Louisiana State Police said that a 2004 Hyundai Santa Fe, driven by Darrell Cude, 37, was traveling south on U.S. 371. Cude lost control of his vehicle as he attempted to illegally pass a southbound commercial motor vehicle by utilizing the shoulder of the highway. Cude overcorrected the vehicle which caused it to travel into the opposing lane of travel and collide with a northbound commercial motor vehicle.

Cude, who was not restrained, sustained fatal injuries. The driver of the commercial motor vehicle, who was properly restrained, was not injured and was not identified in the LSP report.

Louisiana State Police said the accident happened about 11 a.m. just north of the highway’s intersection with Louisiana 2.

A toxicology sample was obtained and will be submitted for analysis. The crash remains under investigation.
