The Prescott Police Department is warning the public about credit card skimming in the town.
“Over the recent week, we have been advised of thousands of dollars being taken from people's bank accounts that have used their credit/debit cards at the pumps to purchase gasoline in and around the City of Prescott.
“We are currently investigating this issue by checking pumps for skimmers and working with financial institutions to narrow down all the businesses that have been compromised,” the Prescott Police Department said in a statement on its Facebook page.
Police suggest that people pre-pay for gasoline at a store counter.
The public should also check with their financial institution to see if their card service offers fraud alert monitoring and have that enabled. This can catch fraud attempts early and save time and money.
