Tammy Johnson, owner of Village One Stop, is branching out. She hopes to open by this weekend a new restaurant, Fins and Hooves, in part of the former South Arkansas Youth Services complex on Calhoun Road (County Road 11). Fins and Hooves will specialize in seafood. We hope to have more information a little later this week. Village One Stop will remain open as it has established a fan base for its steaks and hamburgers. On a sad note, it appears that Los Magnolian Mexican Grill and Bar, 426 E. Main at the Magnuson Hotel, is no more. We noticed furniture being moved out last week.

Public schools opened in Columbia County today. We’re looking forward to a great school year.

We enjoyed cruising through the SAU campus on Sunday during move-in weekend.

Roof work is happening at the Entergy Corporation office on South Jackson, and the New Birth Ministries building on South Washington.

Our new online poll question asks readers for their opinion about President Trump’s trial balloon to purchase Greenland from Denmark. Denmark has said that Greenland isn’t on the market, but the president is the type of person who believes everything has a price.
