B&S Memorials is opening a sales location at the former Something Special florist and gift shop on North Jackson Street. It specializes in tombstones and other types of monuments. New technology has made a big difference in what can be done with monuments at a reasonable price. B&S is based in Camden and has a new production facility under construction there. Farmers Bank & Trust will formally open its new branch in Prosper, TX, at 10 a.m. Thursday, December 5. The new location is at 750 N. Preston Road.

Kenan Advantage Group has significantly expanded its truck yard in the industrial park off South Jackson Street. It is neatly fenced and is well maintained. Across the street, Reliance Well Service has cut down trees at the rear of its lot to create more space in its storage yard.

Entergy Corporation has been cutting trees and trimming hedges around its building on East North Street. We’ve not been inside that building since it was used as a temporary county courthouse following the courthouse fire a couple of decades ago.

Hard to imagine that there was once a time when electric, gas, water and other utilities operated drive through windows to receive direct payments from customers. They’ve gone the way of the rotary telephone. We very well remember driving up to the old City Hall – formerly the old Magnolia High School – to pay water bills.

We appreciate all of the individuals and groups that are working harder than ever to preserve accurate accounts of local history.

Southern Arkansas University will break ground for a band hall expansion, and a new nursing building, on Monday.
