We had some fun with the readers of our Magnolia Reporter on Facebook page this weekend. We invited them to cite a random line from a movie that fans of it would recognize instantly. There were almost 200 responses. Among the fan favorites:

Frankly, my dear, I don’t give a damn.

I’m older and have better insurance.

I love you more than my luggage.

Nobody puts Baby in the corner.

That’s what I love about these high school chicks, man. I get older and they stay the same age.

There’s no crying in baseball!

What we’ve got here is failure to communicate.

You can’t handle the truth.

You’re going to need a bigger boat.

You’re killing me, Smalls.

We have had a lot of rain during the past few days, and we’re going to have more during the next couple of days. Through 6 a.m. today, we recorded 4.37 inches of rain Friday through Sunday, and an additional 1.97 inches of rain since midnight, the first day of March. That’s 6.34 inches of rain this weekend. The total rainfall for February was 5.15 inches, not counting 10.25 inches of snow. Recent March rainfalls:

March 2020 – 5.47

March 2019 – 0.55

March 2018 – 4.98

March 2017 – 3.99

March 2016 – 11.58

Perhaps oil and gas activity will pick up a bit.

A report released Friday by the U.S. Office of the Director of National Intelligence confirmed that the de-facto ruler of Saudi Arabia, Crown Price Mohammed bin Salman, personally approved the operation to murder journalist Jamal Khashoggi. Khashoggi’s crime was to be critical of Saudi Arabia’s government, which led to his strangulation and dismemberment. The Trump administration didn’t do anything about this, and now, the Biden administration has also said it’s going to give the murderous Saudi regime a pass. Secretary of State Antony Blinken said that our nation’s “relationship with Saudi Arabia is bigger than any one individual.” So, not even a “please don’t do that again” from the American government. At a minimum, the United States should suspend arms shipments to the Saudi regime. We say this knowing it is averse to our South Arkansas interests – Lockheed Martin and Raytheon make lots of “defensive” arms for the Saudis in East Camden. But, Lockheed and Raytheon have other customers. Saudi Arabia doesn’t have to be one of them. As for Blinken’s statement, he will likely have reason to regret the words. We condemn both the Trump and Biden administration’s lack of effort to get justice for Jamal Khashoggi.

Sin-sick soul.
