Beard Investments is now working on the second phase of home construction at 2105 N. Washington St. It built four 900-square-foot houses earlier this year, and has started construction of four more. The site was a former mobile home park that was an embarrassing eyesore. Now, the company is creating more modern housing near the SAU campus.
Praise here for Farm Bureau Insurance. It donated $100,000 toward construction of SAU’s new poultry education center, joining an earlier gift from First Financial Bank.
We have to admit to breaking one of our own rules earlier today. We made a comment to someone about another business that we think should be contributing to the SAU poultry education center, but isn’t. This is despite the fact that SAU regularly supplies this business with a steady stream of new employees, and has many SAU grads in its upper management. We generally discourage people from making comments like “they should contribute,” or “they should do this or that.” Businesses and individuals are free to donate their own money as they see fit, and to act in their own best interest. They don’t need us telling them what to do with their own money. That said, we encourage people and businesses in this region to be generous with SAU and hope they will understand these gifts also have the advantage of being in their best interest.
Southern Arkansas University is sending forth many new graduates today, and we wish them well.
