The Columbia County Republican Party is encouraging people to file for political office.

Columbia County Republicans welcome people who want to file as Republican Party candidates during the 2020 election cycle.

Candidates are invited to visit the new Columbia County Courthouse Annex on Boundary Street between the hours 8 a.m. and 4:30 p.m. Monday, November 4 to Tuesday, November 12.

Potential Republican candidates are also invited to file from 5-7 p.m. Monday, November 4 in the Magnolia City Council Chambers.

Arkansas voters approved a ballot issue in 2016 extending terms of office for countywide officials, including sheriff and county judge, from two years to four years effective with the 2018 general election. Therefore, countywide positions won’t be on the ballot until 2022.

However, justices of the peace and constables remain elected for two-year terms and will be on the ballot. Many posts in local cities will also be on the ballot.

The political party filing period for public offices opens at noon Monday, November 4 and ends at noon Tuesday, November 12.

Early voting in the preferential primary election starts Tuesday, February 17, 2020 between the hours of 8 a.m. and 6 p.m. Voting will be available at the Columbia County Clerk’s Office at the new County Annex on Boundary Street (former West Side Kindergarten) from Monday through Saturday, including Monday, March 2.

The preferential primary election and the non-partisan general election will be from 7:30 a.m. to 7:30 p.m. Tuesday, March 3.

The deadline to register to vote in the primary election is Monday, February 3.

Early voting in the 2020 general election starts Monday, October 19, 2020 between the hours of 8 a.m. and 6 p.m. Voting will be available at the Columbia County Clerk’s Office at the new County Annex on Boundary Street (former West Side Kindergarten) from Monday through Saturday, including Monday, November 2.

The 2020 general election will be from 7:30 a.m. to 7:30 p.m. Tuesday, November 3.
