The Columbia County Assessor's Office is located in the County Annex.

Wednesday is the deadline for residents interested in applying for the job of Columbia County assessor.

Sandra Cawyer, who was elected as county assessor in 2010, resigned last week to become the director of the Arkansas Assessment Coordination Division of the state Department of Finance and Administration.

Columbia County Judge Denny Foster set a deadline of 9 a.m. Wednesday for people to submit resumes to his office. The Quorum Court will consider the resumes at its Monday, July 20 meeting, and appoint a successor for the 30 months remaining in Cawyer’s term.

The person selected won’t be eligible to run for the post. The term expires December 31, 2022.

Cawyer was elected as county assessor in 2010, succeeding Cathy Allen. Cawyer had no opposition in any of her elections.

The assessor’s office is now located in the new County Annex building at the former West Side School on Boundary Street.

In county government, it is the job of the assessor's office to find all taxable real and personal property, and to place a value on the property for taxation purposes.
