The Columbia County Sheriff’s Office has issued its second scam alert in two days.
The office said in a statement that the new scam is similar to the one reported the previous day.
“This scam involves the scammers using a local number representing themselves as local pastors or other leaders of ministry, asking the recipient to purchase gift cards and send the numbers to them through text. The scammer promises to pay later today in cash or check. It is much like the one from yesterday and seems very believable. Please contact your local church leadership before purchasing any eBay or other gift cards on the request of a scammer representing a church leader,” the report said.
