The City of Magnolia has closed all city parks until further notice.
Mayor Parnell Vann cited the serious threat for spread of the COVID-19 as the reason for the closure.
“There have been many large gatherings and reported physical altercations in the parks in the past few days. The city is going to do everything it can to limit the ability of citizens to gather in large groups but each citizen must do his/her part and take individual responsibility,” the mayor’s announcement said.
Public health authorities and political leaders have said that social distancing is a necessary step to control the spread of the virus.
