Broiler production in Arkansas was up slightly last week.

Broiler-type chicks placed for meat production in Arkansas were 23.6 million during the week ending August 10. Placements were up 1 percent from the comparable week in 2018 and up slightly from the previous week.

Arkansas hatcheries set 24.4 million broiler-type eggs during the week ending August 10, 2019, down 1 percent from the same period last year and down 3 percent from the previous week.

Hatcheries in the United States weekly program set 231 million eggs in incubators during the week ending August 10, up 1 percent from a year ago. Average hatchability for chicks hatched during the week in the United States was 82.7 percent. Average hatchability is calculated by dividing chicks hatched during the week by eggs set three weeks earlier.

Broiler growers in the United States weekly program placed 189 million chicks for meat production during the week ending August 10, up 1 percent from a year ago. Cumulative placements from the week ending January 5, through August 10, for the United States were 5.97 billion. Cumulative placements were up 1 percent from the same period a year earlier.
