BancorpSouth announces that Mike Waters will be retiring September 30 and conclude a 35-year banking career in Magnolia.
Waters started his career in banking with First National Bank in the Discount Brokerage Department. From there he worked in the Trust Department before moving into the Loan Department.
In the Loan Department he became a loan officer, then the executive vice president. He later was named president where he has served until his retirement.
Waters developed his banking skills at the Arkansas Banking Association lending and trust schools.
He later graduated from the University of Oklahoma Banking School.
Waters is a Southern Arkansas University graduate with a BBA degree.
Waters grew up in Magnolia and has served this community in many ways. He presently is starting his 24th year on the Magnolia School Board where he serves as president.
He is a past president of the Magnolia Rotary Club and is a Paul Harris Fellow II, the SAU Alumni Association, Mulerider Club, Boys and Girls Club, Magnolia Housing Authority, Magnolia Country Club, and the MHS Golf Club.
He has served on the Chamber Board, United Way, Salvation Army, Delta Waterfowl, and Conifer Girl Scouts. He just completed his second term on the Arkansas State School Board. Waters was a graduate of the first Leadership Magnolia class.
He is married to Angie Waters, and they have two children, Abby Alphin and the late Joseph Waters, grandchildren Quinton Alphin and Phinley Waters. They attend Asbury United Methodist Church.
