Sheriff's patch

The Columbia County Sheriff's Office has retracted a scam alert.

The Columbia County Sheriff’s Office has taken the rare step of retracting one of its scam alerts.

The Sheriff’s Office issued the alert on Friday after receiving a complaint about a telephone solicitation. But on Saturday morning, it issued the following statement:

“The owner of Eldercare Insurance Services has contacted our agency with information about his company. This is a legitimate and reputable company that has been taking care of the senior citizen community since 1982 from right here in Arkansas.

“If you have any further questions about them or their services, you can call their toll-free number at 800-999-7340 or visit their website at www.medicareinformation.com.

“We never want to give incorrect information, and we apologize for doing so,” the statement from the Sheriff’s Office said.

The Sheriff’s Office typically issues about 1-2 scam alerts a month. It often cautions the public to avoid giving their financial information to anyone over the phone unless they placed the call.
